Secretariat Canadian International #102
This is a action photograph of Secretariat capping off a spectacular season with this emphatic performance in the 1973 Canadian International at Woodbine Race Course in Toronto, Canada. Eddie Maple "pinch rode" "Big Red" because Ron Turcotte was serving a riding suspension. His Belmont Stakes world record of 2:24 flat was superior to any Belmont Stakes running performance by at least 10 lengths. Secretariat's three year old season was the greatest run by any horse racing champion ever. During the 1973 Triple Crown season, Secretariat was on the cover of Time Magazine, Newsweek and Sports Illustrated. This was the zenith of horse racing prominence in the eyes of the American public.
